A Case Report on Opioid-Induced Constipation in a Patient with Cancer Treated by <italic>Jowiseunggi-tang</italic>

Objective: <i>Jowiseunggi-tang</i> (JWSGT) is a traditional herbal medicine commonly used for purgative activity in constipation. This study evaluates JWSGT the treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC), most common and debilitating gastrointestinal effect opioid use.Methods: A 64-year-old man with floor mouth cancer was hospitalized OIC, administered orally twice day 10 days, along acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping. The primary outcome measures were defecation type according to Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS) frequency bowel movements. Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) Functional Assessment Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) as secondary measures.Results: After three days administration, spontaneous movements observed two times per week improved BSFS from 2 4. reduction BFI score (8.7 2.0) an increase FACT-G (44.3 59.0) suggested improvement fatigue level quality life.Conclusion: first report assess efficacy management OIC patients cancer, may be effective option improve symptoms life this group.
